Launch of Training Manuals to unlock Green Deal opportunities for Construction Industry
08 February 2012
Training manuals designed to equip construction SMEs with the knowledge and skills they need to unlock the commercial opportunities around the Green Deal have been launched by CITB-ConstructionSkills today.
Entitled ‘A Trainer Resource Manual for Insulation and Building Treatments’, the series of six manuals have been developed by the Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council as a resource for employers, training providers and construction workers, to enable them to prepare for the Government’s flagship home efficiency scheme, which is being rolled out in October.
The manuals incorporate expert industry guidance on how to perform different types of insulation installation including: loft, cavity, internal and external wall, roofing and draft proofing.
They also give an overview of the scheme, what equipment and materials to use, any health and safety issues, customer care situations, and they direct readers to other sources of industry guidance, to provide a comprehensive range of information for potential Green Deal installers.
CITB-ConstructionSkills Chief Executive Mark Farrar said: “It is vital that the construction industry has the skills to carry out work under the Green Deal to the highest standard, in order to drive the scheme to success and to meet the Government’s target of making 14m homes more energy efficient by 2020.
“Insulation installation is one of the fundamental types of retrofitting work to be carried out under the Green Deal. These training manuals enable construction firms to start upskilling and opening up the door to the £15bn of private capital investment and thousands of jobs.
“We are working to support the industry to make the transition to a low carbon economy, so it can make the most of the commercial and employment opportunities that the scheme promises.”
The training manuals were developed by CITB-ConstructionSkills as part of its work as a partner in the Green Deal Skills Alliance (GDSA). It’s other partners are the sector skills councils SummitSkills and AssetSkills.
They are available to be downloaded now for free from the Cut the Carbon campaign website: www.cskills.org/cutcarbon
