Criteria for successful projects

For your application to be considered for M&SDP funding, your proposed project will need to meet all the following criteria:

  • It addresses an identified and agreed need for management training and development in line with the sustainable development agenda

  • It addresses an identified and agreed need for management and supervisory training and/or development

  • The project/programme has tangible, measurable and sustainable outputs

  • It has the widest possible impact across the industry either through supply chain working or through ConstructionSkills’ dissemination of the benefits and outcomes

  • The applicant accepts full responsibility and accountability for the delivery of the funded project and its associated financial commitments within the agreed timescale

  • It is agreed that ConstructionSkills will retain the IPR for any products or materials that are developed as a consequence of the funding support provided by M&SDP unless specifically stipulated. Guidance notes on IPR are available

  • The project seeks to support and enhance the business performance and improvement of companies by training/educating their managers and supervisors across the broad heading of sustainable development

  • Agreement is given that ConstructionSkills is able to share outcomes with others in the industry where appropriate

  • The project is not aimed at the craft or technical level of training

  • The project does not request 100% M&SDP funding i.e. a percentage contribution to the project will only be considered

  • Funding for the MSDP is approved on an annual basis. It must be noted that projects where the duration is in excess of that 12 month period may be approved for support, but funding will only be guaranteed for the year of application. Funding for any future period will only be considered once the annual MSDP funding budget for the corresponding year is approved

  • Funding support from the MSDP is intended to pump prime and develop management and supervisory training within a company or a supply chain. Repeat requests for the funding of programmes will be provided to a level of 10% of the initial funding level in Year 2 and will not be supported in Year 3. If it is anticipated that programmes require regular support they will need to be directed to the Grants Scheme Working Party for consideration

  • Funding support solely for the off setting of delivery costs or the delivery of core business activities will not be permitted.

  • All projects gaining funding from the MSDP will be required to include the following in any marketing/promotional/publication/ certification activity – “ We are pleased to advise that this programme is part funded with support from CITB-ConstructionSkills from the MSDP programme” All marketing materials/products needs to include the CITB-ConstructionSkills logo.

  • Requests from employers specifically seeking funding support for operative or general workforce development will be directed to the Grants Scheme.

  • Funding can not be provided for out of scope companies. ConstructionSkills retain the final decision

Those applications that do not focus on issues of training and skills in relation to Management and Leadership, Innovation or Sustainability and which are therefore not fundable via the MSDP programme will be directed to alternative funding sources such as the Annual Grants Scheme for potential support.

In evaluating your project application, we will use the following criteria:

  • The nature of the project: to enhance the business performance of the target audience by training/educating managers and supervisors.

  • The project’s ability to meet industry wide training needs.

  • The widest possible impact of the project across the industry either through cross construction federations/ trade organisations working and/or through ConstructionSkills’ dissemination.

  • Training needs as identified in the research undertaken by M &SDP. The history, where available, of the applying construction federation, trade organisation or employer to successfully deliver project objectives and outcomes.

  • The value of the project in relation to the current availability of Fund

Those applications that do not focus on issues of training and skills in relation to Management and Leadership, Innovation or Sustainability and which are therefore not fundable via the MSDP programme will be directed to alternative funding sources such as the Annual Grants Scheme for potential support.

Each application will also be evaluated in relation to the value of the current availability of the fund.
