Types of projects considered

Sustainability and Innovation

These projects could include:

  • Assisting employers across the sector to understand and address the legislation, management, design, technology and other business issues of sustainable development, innovation and renewable energies through accredited courses and programmes

  • Executive briefings for clients, contractors and supply chain members on the potential impact on businesses of Government targets such as the Code for Sustainable Homes, Low Carbon and Low Energy etc

  • Developing management skills to ensure the introduction of innovation in materials and processes into working practices

  • Improving the capability to work in a “lean” manner

  • Take-up of the NCC Sustainability Diagnostic Tool

  • Creating sustainable communities and workforce

  • Supporting the drive to “low carbon” solutions, especially in existing housing stock.

  • Working with communities prior and during construction

  • The management of electronic product and process data amongst collaborating firms to support integrated projects

  • Explore innovative training delivery methods

  • Consider independent quality assurance and skills accreditation to build consumer confidence

  • Involve a degree of novel relationships such as with manufacturers/energy supply or cross sectors.

  • Other sector specific innovative or sustainability issues

Management and Leadership

These projects could include:

  • The development and design of programmes, courses and seminars which meet an identified and agreed need for management, supervisory and/or leadership skills where there are gaps in provision, where industry initiatives demand a rapid response, and also in response to market failure.

  • The development of specific course materials which are not available elsewhere to meet the identified need

  • The delivery of management and supervisory and leadership programmes

  • Programmes which support the uptake of business standards such as IiP, business improvement programmes, ISO, the Business Excellence Model etc

  • The attainment of formal management qualifications not otherwise supported in the Annual Grants Scheme

  • Activities relating to the measurement of productivity and performance measurement
