Case Study: Building Northern Ireland Campaign

Contractor meeting

The Building Northern Ireland campaign, launched in September 2008, highlights key training themes and profiles Northern Ireland companies that demonstrate best practice within these themes.

The campaign’s first theme was management and leadership – chosen following a

CITB-Northern Ireland survey which revealed that only 29% of construction firms trained their managers to a formal qualification. Ballymena based construction company Martin & Hamilton illustrates how making a commitment to training managers and supervisors can make a difference to the company – on all levels.

As David Hamilton, Managing Director of Martin & Hamilton, commented:

“We have always worked hard to build our reputation upon delivering quality and value. The only way that we can do this is by having an appropriately qualified and trained team in place. At Martin & Hamilton we are dedicated and committed to training every member of staff – especially managers and supervisors.

“Martin & Hamilton supports the Building Northern Ireland campaign as we are all too aware of the importance of developing and supporting staff via training. Without highly skilled and qualified managers we would not be in a position to be accredited with our Chartered Building Company status.”
