Being a Sector Skills Council

ConstructionSkills has been the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for construction since 2003. It is one of 25 SSCs that make up the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils.

ConstructionSkills’ mission for the industry is ‘a fully skilled and professional UK construction industry working safely and delivering value’

ConstructionSkills, a partnership between CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Construction Industry Council and CITB Northern Ireland, has responsibility for delivering four key goals:

  1. Reducing Skills Gaps and Shortages
  2. Improving productivity, business and public service performance
  3. Increasing opportunities to develop and improve the productivity of the sector’s workforce, including action to address equal opportunities
  4. Improving learning supply, including the development of apprenticeships, higher education and national occupational standards

One of the tools used to deliver these goals is the Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) for Construction.

This collaborative agreement between construction employers, training providers and Government, ensures the delivery of the right training in the right format for employers and individuals in the workforce, so that the skills needs of the future are met.

With construction underpinning all other UK industries and public services, and employing over 2 million workers, its impact and importance to UK Plc cannot be underestimated.
