In the last five years, we have made a real difference to the industry. We have encouraged a training culture within the industry and in 2008, a record number of employers claimed grants to pay for skills training.

Investment in training

1 In the last five years, we have increased the number of people investing in training by over 300%

Diploma launch

2 We were among the first to launch a sector specific diploma. The Construction and the Built Environment Diploma was launched in September 2008.

Diversity

Number 3 Since 2003 we have increased the number of women in the industry. The STEP campaign brought in 500 women in its first year and 2,000 women in its fifth year.

Apprenticeship completions

Number 4 Our apprenticeship completions and Framework achievements have grown steadily over the last 5 years.

Construction related degrees

5 In the last five years, we have increased the number of construction related degree course applicants by over100%

Scholarships

Number 6 Since launching the Inspire Scholarship Scheme in 2005 we have matched over 750 university students with employer sponsors.

Satisfaction

7 Employers and Stakeholders are satisfied with our work and in 2008, satisfaction levels increased to 77%

National Skills Academy for Construction

8 Since its launch in 2006 we have developed 24 National Skills Academy for Construction projects in England to deliver specialist training on site – including Olympic sites.

OSAT/EWPA

9 In the last five years we have had year on year increases in the number of construction workers undertaking On Site Assessment Training and Experienced Worker Practical Assessments.

CIC Coaching Scheme

10 In the last 3 years there has been a significant rise in the number of 14-16 year olds taking part in our Coaching Scheme.
