Most of the construction trades are now covered by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), which is becoming the industry standard.

Different schemes still exist for plant operators, scaffolders, demolition operatives and heating and venting operatives, as well as separate schemes for electricians and plumbers. However, all card schemes require similar things - a NVQ or SVQ and a Health and Safety Test.

The following section provides links to more information on each of the main schemes, as well as an A-Z listing of each construction occupation and the cards accepted by Major Contractors Group (MCG) sites for each of those occupations.
