Work Ready Award

The Work Ready Award (WRA) enables schools, colleges and training providers to offer additional support to students on construction related courses, helping them to make a successful transition into the world of work.

The Work Ready Award is a non-accredited project that can bolt on to any existing full or part-time programme of learning.  Over a series of six monthly or bi-monthly reviews, students are assessed against six key employability measures and their improvement over time is recorded and tracked.  At the end of the award, participants receive a certificate of achievement and a branded ID card that can be shown to employers.

Areas that are assessed include:

  • Personal Skills
  • Disciplinary record
  • Punctuality
  • Health and Safety
  • Academic Achievement
  • Attendance

The award can help students move from college into work more successfully and improve links with local employers by providing 'work ready' candidates for future employment.

The Work Ready Award was originally intended for young people aged 14-18, identified as not in employment, education or training (NEET), allowing them  to demonstrate that they are able to conduct themselves in a way which would be attractive to any potential employers. The award  can equally be applied to a variety of target groups including those studying towards an apprenticeship, adults returning to work or the long-term unemployed.

The resources available on this page will enable you to deliver the content of the Work Ready Award and manage the associated reports and paperwork.
