Migrant workers Health and Safety Test
The ConstructionSkills Health and Safety Test is the industry standard way of measuring workers’ retained health and safety knowledge.
It is designed to ensure everybody working in construction has a minimum level of health and safety awareness and is an essential part of qualifying for the major card schemes such as CSCS and affiliated schemes. It can be taken at more than 150 locations around the country and, with mobile and internet testing, we can also bring the test to your premises.
The test is multiple choice and is conducted via computer, although candidates don’t need any special computer skills. Candidates are also able to sit the test with a voiceover in their native language or with an interpreter – you just need to request this at time of booking.
Questions are taken from an approved selection covering topics such as site hazards, working at heights, using dangerous substances and understanding warning signs. All the possible questions are listed in the Health and Safety Test Question Book and CD-Rom, which are also available translated into the most common foreign languages currently being used by migrant workers.
You have a legal responsibility to provide health and safety training for your workers, so you may want to consider the health and safety courses available through our National Construction College or encourage them to use publications before putting them through the test.
For more information on the test, visit the Health and Safety Test section on the ConstructionSkills website.
SkillsDirect
The simplest way to qualify workers for their CSCS card is through ConstructionSkills’ SkillsDirect service – this brings together the Health and Safety Test, card application and a route to a qualification, if required.
Employers may be able to claim CITB-ConstructionSkills Grant for training and achievement of recognised qualifications.
