A19 - Construction-related Work Experience
By broadening the skills in your workforce - you could bring more to the construction projects you work on. With a diverse, highly skilled team you can start to take on better jobs and contracts. Technical, management and professional skills are in high demand in the construction industry. You may have staff who are looking to expand their knowledge and contribute to the business on other levels. Reward your staff by supporting their career development and they will reward you and your business with their newly acquired skills.
This grant is available for planned work experience that lasts four or more consecutive weeks and forms and integral and essential part of a construction-related, technical or professional course.

What is the status of trainees supported?

What training is supported?
Planned work experience lasting for at least four consecutive weeks which provides industrial training that forms an essential and integral part of a construction-related, technical or professional course.
Overseas planned work experience.
Work experience temporarily undertaken with another firm for the purpose of broadening the students understanding. In this case grant continues to be paid to the main employer.
What training is not supported?
Any periods during which the student is:
- attending other grant-aided training
- on holiday
- on the college/university part of the course.
What is the status of trainees supported?
Employees, or students employed during their work experience programme.
What is the status of trainees not supported?
Labour-only sub-contractors and agency staff.
How much is the grant?
£175 per week up to a maximum of £8,750 per year.
You will receive an additional 25% supplementary payment automatically if you are eligible.
This rate may be reduced if sufficient Levy funding was not available. This is only likely to take effect in exceptional circumstances.

Submit the form on completion of the work experience programme, which could happen at any time during the year. Email the claim form to grant.claimforms@cskills.org or send the form to the CITB-ConstructionSkills Levy & Grant Department, Bircham Newton, Norfolk, PE31 6RH.
What else do I need to submit?
You do not need to send us anything with your claim. However, for verification purposes you are required to produce a training programme for each student. You may use your own format for the programme but the content must show what was covered in the programme, where and when it took place and with whom.
Is there a closing date?
Your claim must be received by the CITB-ConstructionSkills Levy & Grant Department no later than 31st October 2009. Claims received after this date will be rejected.
What else might I be able to claim?
Additional training may be claimed through either the Training and Development Plan (B101/102) or Short Duration off-the-job training route(B201/202).
