Technical, management and professional skills are in high demand in the construction industry. You may have staff who are looking to expand their knowledge and contribute to the business on other levels. This grant is available for achievement of approved off-the-job training courses including SQA National/Higher Certificate or Higher National Diploma, part time degree or foundation degree courses and post graduate diplomas, which must be in construction-related subjects.

What achievements are supported?

Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) National or Higher Certificate/Diploma in a construction-related subject.

SQA Advanced Awards in construction crafts (Scotland only).

A foundation degree or first degree taken in a construction-related subject.

A second degree taken in a construction-related subject where an individual's first degree is not in a construction-related subject.

A first post graduate diploma in a construction-related subject.

An Advanced Professional Certificate in Construction, Advanced Professional Diploma in Construction or a Master Professional Diploma in Construction (HLQ 4444).

These achievements are only supported by this grant where the course attendance was on a part-time or day-release basis.

What achievements are not supported?

Bridge courses, first certificates or professional body courses.

An individual's second degree (or equivalent qualification) where the individual's first degree is in a construction-related subject.

NVQ/SVQ Levels 3, 4 or 5 (as grants A32/A33 support these achievements).

A SQA Award cross-matched to the NVQ/SVQ structure is only eligible for a single achievement grant. You can either claim grant A25 or grant A32/A33 but not both.

Where the achievement follows full-time attendance.

What is the status of trainees supported?

Employed trainees in construction related occupations.

What is the stats of trainees not supported?

Labour-only sub-contractors and agency staff.

Employees in non-construction related occupations.

How much is the grant?

£1,000 for each achievement.

You will receive an additional 25% supplementary payment automatically if you are eligible.

This rate may be reduced if sufficient Levy funding was not available. This is only likely to take effect in exceptional circumstances.

How do I claim?

Please download a GC1 claim form or contact your local ConstructionSkills office for a copy. Submit the form when you have received confirmation of achievement.

Please note that the date of achievement for grant purposes is the date when the examination or test was taken.

Send your claim form to the CITB-ConstructionSkills Levy & Grant Department, Bircham Newton, Norfolk, PE31 6RH.

If your claim is for a Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Advanced Award in Construction Crafts send your claim form to your local ConstructionSkills office for the attention of the Area Manager. He/she will approve your claim and forward it to the CITB-ConstructionSkills Levy & Grant Department for payment.

What else do I need to submit?

We may require written evidence to verify claims. Copies of college reports or end-of-year statements should be available from your college. When submitting your claim form, please attach this evidence to your application. However if the evidence is not available at the time of claiming do not miss the deadline. Send in your claim and we will then contact you for evidence at a later stage.

Is there a closing date?

Claims for achievements awarded within the 2008/2009 CITB-ConstructionSkills Grants Scheme Year must be received no later than 31st October 2009. Claims received after this date will be rejected.
