What does this grant support?
A grant for the adoption of a redundant apprentice may be claimed by an employer who transfers registration of an apprenticeship deed in order to complete the apprenticeship period.
An apprentice is regarded as redundant (for the purpose of the adoption grant) if the original employer ceases to trade, goes into voluntary liquidation, or if the employer cannot provide continuity of employment due to lack of work in the apprentice's occupational craft area.
What does this grant not support?
Apprentices who are dismissed for any reason other than redundancy, who leave employment of their own accord, or who are transferred from one employer to another.
Craft Grant Non Apprenticeship trainees as grant A08 supports this training.
What is the status of employers not eligible for this grant?
Adoption grant is not payable to:
- employers who have made an apprentice redundant within the last two years
- employers taking over the business of an employer who has made an apprentice redundant within the last two years
- employers where the principles are or were, those of an employer who has made an apprentice redundant within the last two years.
What is the status of trainees supported?
Apprentices who have been made redundant and then adopted by a new employer.
The apprentice must be registered under the Construction Apprenticeship Scheme (CAS), Scottish Building Apprenticeship and Training Council (SBATC), or other ConstructionSkills' approved industry apprenticeship scheme.
The above definitions are purely for the approval of adoption grants. They do not seek to redefine redundancy covered by Industry Working Rule Agreements and Industry Joint Bodies. Any other reason for dismissal of an apprentice will not be regarded as redundancy for the purpose of the adoption grant.
What is the status of trainees not supported?
Apprentices who are eligible or will be eligible for an apprentice registration grant as this is supported by grant A01.
Apprentices who have not continued their apprenticeship with the adopting employer for at least 13 continuous weeks from the date of adoption (when an apprenticeship deed registration was formally transferred to the new employer).
Apprentices with less than four weeks of their apprenticeship period to complete from the date of adoption.
How much is the grant?
You will receive £210 grant.
You will receive an additional 25% supplementary payment automatically if you are eligible.
This rate may be reduced if sufficient Levy funding was not available. This is only likely to take effect in exceptional circumstances.
How do I claim?
Download an AG/Y3 claim form or contact your local ConstructionSkills office for a copy.
Return your completed form to your local ConstructionSkills office. Do not send the form earlier than 13 weeks after the apprenticeship deed registration has been formally transferred to you as the new employer.
The date of formal transfer of the apprenticeship deed registration is taken as the date of adoption for the purposes of this grant.
What else do I need to submit?
For apprentices registered under the Construction Apprenticeship Scheme (CAS) no supporting documents are required.
For apprentices registered under any other apprenticeship registration scheme you must attach the following to the AG/Y3 claim form:
- a copy of the original apprenticeship deed registration.
- a letter from the apprenticeship registering body to confirm details of the deed transfer and the effective date.
Is there a closing date?
For registrations transferred within the 2008/2009 Grants Scheme year your claim must be received by ConstructionSkills no later than 31st October 2009. Claims received after this date will be rejected.
What else might I be able to claim?
Apprentice attendance and achievement grant may be claimed. Download further information about grants A01-A06 which support apprentices or contact your local ConstructionSkills office for advice.
