Apprenticeships are intended to provide an integrated programme of learning leading to the aquisition and application of skills, knowledge and understanding required by employers.

The completion of an apprenticeship framework shows both current and potential employers that the holder has achieved competence in the skills covered by an apprenticeship and has attained the level of transferable skills required by all apprenticeships.

All apprentice frameworks must include a completance based element, a knoweldge based element, transferable of 'key' skills and employment rights and responsibilities.

Sector Skills Councils and Sector Bodies and responsible for determining and publicising entry criteria.

The apprenticeship is not currently a qualification in its own right.
