Showcasing the construction industry

National Construction Week (NCW) is set to be relaunched as Construction Showcase.

NCW has been hugely successful, but feedback from industry indicates that it places a lot of pressure on firms and schools to organise activity at a fixed time.

Construction Showcase enables the concept to extend beyond one week per year.
Employers, schools and colleges will now take part in events all year round, and employers will have the chance to raise their profile by using the ‘Construction Showcase’ quality mark to promote their recruitment and careers activities on a dedicated ‘Showcase’ campaign website.

Paul Sykes, Head of Recruitment and Careers at ConstructionSkills, said: “We hope that linking up all this activity will help the industry to provide a ‘united’ front in the competition to attract talented young people to the industry, and that it will encourage more employers to carry out education and careers work.

“Construction is an excellent career choice, offering quality training and good prospects, and the Construction Showcase is an ideal opportunity to get this message out to young people.”

Roy Cavanagh, Training Manager at Seddon Group, said: “Construction Showcase will operate all year round, and cover all kinds of events. The Seddon Group carries out a lot of work with local schools – we recently invited Sir Michael Latham to visit a local college – and it will be a great advantage for employers of any size to be able to promote this on the new Construction Showcase website.

“Hopefully other employers will see the work we are doing and become motivated to get involved, encouraging even more young people to think of the construction industry as a good career option.”
