Sentinel Track Safety Card

The Sentinel card is a Network Rail Scheme for making sure that the people who within the Network Rail infrastructure are competent and medically fit. It is mandatory to hold the card if working on or near the line.

The card lists many duties undertaken within the rail environment following training and site assessment. All duties require the PTS endorsement as a minimum.

Random checks and audits are regularly made to check the validity of cards, and cards can be suspended and withdrawn if rail safety rules are not complied with.

To hold a Sentinel card endorsed with PTS you must:

Be sponsored by an employer
Pass a Network Rail approved medical check
Pass a Network Rail approved Drugs and Alcohol test
Attend a Network Rail approved track safety training course and pass the assessment
Further information regarding the Sentinel Scheme can made by contacting the Sentinel helpline on 0870 164 2244 or by visiting http://www.ncca-sentinel.co.uk/.
