This online version of Site supervision simplified (GE 706) is user-friendly and handy for instant access through our online portal, GOLD (Gateway to online learning and development). The 2013 edition has been refreshed and updated to improve the user's experience, whilst retaining the core functionality. The enhanced design features easy-to-use and understand improved navigation controls and includes a full search facility. Subscription is for full access for 12 months, and you will always have access to the most up-to-date edition.
Site supervision simplified is aimed at supervisors and first line managers, but also provides managers and owners of small construction companies with easy-to-understand information and practical guidance to help them implement, supervise and monitor the required standards of health, safety and environment on construction sites. It is also a useful source of information on basic, site-based health, safety and environment issues for university undergraduates, college students on construction management courses and for those on other construction-focused courses.
The content has been updated for 2013 to reflect legislation changes and the language has been simplified and additional supporting images included, where appropriate. Icons have also been added to help emphasise key points, best practice and links to related online information.
Content provides the supervisor with advice on solutions, case studies and practical day-to-day guidance on what to do, as well as short clear explanations on related legislation. Each chapter begins with a summary list of the employer's responsibilities, together with a corresponding checklist for supervisors, to help them understand what they and their employer should be doing together, to protect their workforce.
The chapter order follows the standard topic structure that can be found within all our core health, safety and environment publications and digital editions (A Legal and management; B Health and welfare; C General safety; D High risk activities; E Environment; F Specialist activities). This enables easy cross-referencing between publications and will greatly assist a supervisor to prepare and deliver toolbox talks, such as those contained within our Toolbox talks (GT 700) publication.
GE 706 is the official reference material for CITB Construction Skills' Site Safety Plus Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS), a two-day course for first line managers and supervisors as a supporting document not only on the course but for reference purposes at work afterwards.
