As a partner in ConstructionSkills, the Sector Skills Council for Construction, these initiatives are carried out by us as a SSC to understand and better position the construction industry in the context of government policies. There are two key strands to our activity:

ConstructionSkills is the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the construction industry. It is a partnership between CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and CITB Northern Ireland (NI).
As such, this partnership covers the whole industry - from craft through to the professional occupations - the whole of the UK, and all of the issues that the industry faces.
SSCs are responsible for tackling the skills and productivity needs of their sectors and have the four key goals:
SSCs are the voice of industry. They give employers direct input into how training funding and policy are organised.
Sector Skills Agreements (SSAs) are the most powerful tool a Sector Skills Council has. They identify the skills and challenges faced by the industry and demonstrate the increased employer commitment to training to address these challenges. Essentially they are deals, between the industry and the government, to:
Our role is to help broker the deal on behalf of the construction industry and ensure that the government and its agencies deliver the necessary training supply side to meet industry’s requirements.
