People who wish to start a career in the construction industry and are motivated to work hard to become valuable members of the construction workforce.
The General Construction course is offered as part of the Apprenticeships programme and aims to prepare apprentices for the first stages towards becoming skilled workers in the fields of civil engineering.
This course has been revised in consultation with the industry and now includes training in areas that are essential for today’s construction site. It is suitable for apprentices who wish to go on to do further training to prepare them, for further career progression.

Training methods
Methods of assessment
All knowledge and understanding assessments will be carried out during attendance at the college. Arrangements will be made to assess apprentices in the workplace during on-site periods. Guidance in portfolio collation and assessments for an NVQ Level 2 qualification will be discussed with the employer and apprentice.

Year 1: 18 weeks underpinning Knowledge for the Intermediate Construction Award
Year 2: The remaining part of the apprenticeship is spent with the employer gaining work experience with assessment for the NVQ level 2 Construction Award, carried out by NCC.
This programme has recently been revised and effective from 2008 will consist of a total of 18 weeks in college with the option of a number of additional modules which can be purchased by the employer to provide training in specific employer areas.
*Please note that this course runs at NCC Midlands as 12 weeks year 1 and 6 weeks in year 2.
