Who’s the course for?

People who have no fear of heights, who are interested in pursuing a career in this unique profession and motivated to work hard and become valuable members of the lightning conductor workforce.

Course aims and benefits

The Lightning Conductor Engineering course aims to prepare apprentices to become responsible and skilled workers in the industry. Apprentices obtain a safe working knowledge of site access, bosun’s seats, earthing, together with a practical appreciation of the skills and techniques that are required to work within the varied world of the lightning conductor engineer.

The lightning conductor industry has set up this apprenticeship as an entry to a career as a Lightning Conductor Engineer.

  • Establishing provision for fall arrest
  • Locating and avoiding service apparatus and sub structures
  • Contributing to an efficient and effective work environment
  • Contributing to Health and Safety in the workplace

Where and when

This apprenticeship is available through the following campus:

NNC East (Bircham Newton)

Year 1: 12 weeks (NCC East)
Year 2:
11 weeks (NCC East)

The remaining part of the programme is spent on-site with the apprentice’s employer to gain work experience.
