People who wish to start a career in the roof sheeting and cladding industry and are motivated to work hard to become valuable members of the construction workforce. Apprentices should have a good head for heights and be prepared to work outdoors whatever the weather. Some mathematical ability is needed for estimating and measuring.
The course has been designed in close consultation with industry and is offered as part of the Apprenticeship programme. It provides training and assessment in single and double skin, also factory-assembled composite systems that include flashings, fasteners and fixings, together with the practical and theoretical knowledge required to achieve the roof sheeting and cladding framework. Apprentices learn how to cut, shape and fix materials including metal, plastic and cement panels to create walls and roofs.

Entry requirements
All candidates will be required to complete a Skills Learning exercise, and some will need to attend the college for further tests.

Methods of assessment
All knowledge and understanding assessments will be carried out during attendance at the college. Arrangements will be made to assess apprentices in the workplace during on-site periods. Guidance in portfolio collation and assessments for an S/NVQ Level 2 qualification will be discussed with the employer and apprentice.

This apprenticeship is available through the following campuses:

Year 1: 5 x 3-week blocks
Year 2: 2 x 3-week blocks and 1 x 2-week block
The remaining part of the programme is spent on-site with the apprentice’s employer to gain work experience.
