Architectural Technician - Barbara Cartwright
Barbara Cartwright,
Aged 23
Qualification
HND Architectural Technology, Technician Membership of Chartered Institiute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT)
What do you do day-to-day?
I'm involved in the whole design and building process from start to finish. I will work on design projects from the early stages of feasibility and design until the building is built. I regularly have a number of projects to work on at any one time, including inception design drawing for the conversion of a building, full working drawings for a new build apartment block, communication to Contractors and clients answering queries and, when I'm not doing all that, I will be out on site checking building work and that things are running smoothly on site; I never get bored!
What are the good bits about your job?
When a project is finished and you know you've played a part in that, it's a great feeling. I also enjoy the variation of projects and working with different people; everyday there is a different challenge to overcome.
Where would you like to take your career in the future?
I am still working towards attaining full technologist membership of CIAT which I hope to finish next year. I would like to work abroad for a couple of years to learn about a different country's construction methods.
