Working towards SVQ 3 in Bricklaying.

What do you do day-to-day?
I'm part of a squad of 2 or 3 people working on the construction of new buildings. It's great to see the end result of your work when you've taken the plans and turned them into reality. Then you move on to something different. I really enjoy studying at college as well as working on site.

What advice would you give to prospective students?
If you're interested in bricklaying, stick to it! You need to be physically fit and prepared to work outside, but if you're happy to put your back into it there are loads of opportunities.

What does the future hold?
I've already won the Guild of Bricklayers competition for the best apprentice in Scotland! In the long term, I hope to start up my own business one day - and become my own boss!

Why did you choose this career?
I knew that I wanted to work outdoors so when I spoke to my Careers Adviser at school, they suggested bricklaying.
