What are the good bits about your job?
I get a real sense of pride and achievement when a project's seen through from the initial design concepts to the completed works. It's great.
Why did you choose to be a cad technician?
CAD technician work is relatively well paid and offers scope for different career paths to follow. Exciting new areas of CAD are being developed at the moment, such as virtual reality. These have enormous potential to change the construction industry, and it's great being a part of it.
What are your responsibilities day-to-day?
I work within a team of building surveyors. I'm responsible for the production and quality of all the drawing work, and that the relevant drawing conventions are used. I also keep track of all the drawings that come into and leave the office. I do about 60 per cent of this work myself but there are also 3 or 4 other people in the office that do some drawing work.
