Why did you choose your career?
I worked in an office and found that I hated working behind a desk. I had done work experience with a builder while I was at school and loved it, so I decided that it was the way forward for me. Also I wanted to learn a trade that would enable me to work abroad.

What are the good bits about your job?
I go out and do jobs on my own in my own van - it's like I'm my own boss really. I get to meet lots of people, other trades people as well as customers.

What advice would you give to prospective students?
I would say that you have got to enjoy working with your hands - and you shouldn't mind getting a bit dirty sometimes!

What does the future hold?
I'm going on to do my NVQ Level 3. Once I get that I'm planning on going to Australia and should be able to get work quite easily as I will be well qualified.
