Lead Sheeter - Michael Daines
Michael Daines,
Age 20
Qualification
Basic Module 1 and 2, City and Guilds in Lead Sheeting
What advice would you give to prospective students?
Be prepared for hard graft because it is a physical job. It is very interesting though and because there are so few lead sheeters I have a long-term career ahead of me. I would recommend getting into an apprenticeship or City and Guilds qualification because you get practical experience, a qualification and meet new friends at college and on-site. If you work with others you can learn from each other, which helps speed up your own skill development and progress.
Good bits of your job?
The great aspect of my job is the fact that I learn something new everyday and the level of diversity within it means I never get bored. I also love working outside, especially in the summer.
Why did you choose your career?
My Dad is a tiler and I was unsure of what to do when I left school so I started working with him, and found I quite enjoyed it. I decided to go into lead sheet work, rather than tiling because it allowed me to work on lots of different buildings and the work is very diverse.
