Plant Mechanic - Edward Manion
Edward Manion,
Aged 17
Qualifications
NVQ 2 Plant Mechanics
What do you do day-to-day?
I get to work on the really big plant machinery, like piling rigs and cranes. I replace components, work on hydraulics and electrics.
Social aspects of your course?
I really enjoyed staying at college. There were loads of activities to do and I learnt a lot about good techniques too. It was strict, but not like a boot camp or anything.
What are the good bits about your job?
The job's varied, which I love - you get to touch on lots of different work aspects. For example, I do welding, work on electrics, fuel and hydraulic systems, all sorts. I really, really enjoy it!
What does the future hold?
I will be going on to do my NVQ Level 3 in a bit. From there I am hoping to go further and go on a higher level engineering course.
Why did you choose this career?
I've always been interested in machinery and engineering, even since I was little. The really big stuff - cranes and track-based machines.
