What do you do day-to-day?
My day includes a whole range of duties, ranging from procuring subcontract packages to dealing with clients in order to obtain monies for works carried out. A lot of my day is spent better buying packages (at the start of a new project) and generally dealing with subcontractors. I also write a site diary on how the project I am working on is progressing and noting down any problems which may have a time/cost implication later on in the project.
If you were to recommend your job to someone else, what would you say?
There is very little time to get bored as it is always so busy. No matter how experienced you are, you can learn something every day as no 2 days are the same! Good training is always provided and I've even been given the opportunity to gain a vocational degree.
Where would you like to take your job in the future?
I would like to work my way up to a commercial director but until I get there I want to continue on working on challenging projects.
What were you doing before you joined the construction industry?
Before I joined the construction industry I was P.A to the Managing Director of a fashion house. I have also been in financial recruitment and worked in Paris for UNESCO.
