SECC, Glasgow

Secc Glasgow

The Clyde Auditorium is the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre's (SECC) purpose-built conference centre and one of Glasgow's most recognisable landmarks. Designed by world-renowned architects Foster and Partners, the stunning building, which opened in 1997, can accommodate 3000 delegates.

Locally it is nicknamed the "Armadillo" because of its unusual shape which was created using flat sheet material which is clad in a series of framed 'hulls' which overlap to create its distinctive shape which are reflective by day and floodlit by night.

The SECC itself is situated on a 64-acre site on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow and is the UK's largest integrated exhibition and conference centre with 22,355m2 of exhibition space in five interconnected halls. It is also Scotland's national venue for public events and can house anything from carnivals to ice shows to major arena-style concerts that attract some of the world's hottest acts.

The SECC is also building a £62 million purpose-built entertainments Arena which is due to open early 2010. Also designed by Foster and Partners, it will certainly be one to look out for!
