Whitelee Wind Farm, Eaglesham Moor
Europe’s biggest onshore wind farm (140 turbines / 322 MW) and when operational will provide enough electricity to power 180,000 homes – roughly sufficient to power the housing needs of Glasgow City.
- the scale: the 55 sq km site is approximately equivalent to the size of Dundee, Brighton or Bermuda, providing significant logistical challenges for the movement and co-ordination of labour, plant and materials.
- road construction: 88kms of access roads with in excess of 170 water crossings with varying diameter culvert pipes installed below the road to allow the flow of existing burns and ditches.
Eight simple licence applications and 162 separate registrations to be submitted to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
